Analysing A brief

The Brief:

The brief ill be analysing will be the a competition brief for the Sundance Short film festival. I have chosen this brief to analyse as it is a formal brief that anyone can enter and take part in.

Analysis of The brief:

The brief consists of 5 different areas that it covers.

The First Area that it covers is the Even Background, this basically says what the Sundance Film festival is and when and where it will be held. A lot of brief has this information, this is so that you know what and who your signing to.

After the first section, it then goes and explains what is the Short film competition, this is to give the person some knowledge of what it actually is and who their partnered with. This is a good way to gain an interest within the competition so if you win you will have a connection with some of the partners and would be more easily employable as people will already know your work.

Then it goes and tells you what you'll have to produce and the requirements are when you produce this. This is normally used in most brief as it explains the requirements of the job/role and what they'll have to do in order to beat the other competition. 

After this, it goes and explains how and when the judging will happen so that you know the exact date and order of the judging. For example, this  film festivals judging will select and shortlist 25 nominated films and then will decide who will get the grand prize

Finally, The brief will show where the winners film will be premiered so that people know where to go to go and see the winning film. But also at the bottom it will include the Terms & Conditions so people can read it.


The second Brief:

The Second ill be analysing will be a brief for a film for the Milton Keynes Heritage partnership. I have chosen this brief to analyse as it is a formal brief with formal elements and formal language to it.

Analysis of The brief:



The brief  consists of longer paragraphs that firstly gives an introduction to what the company is and what their vision is. This is so that the person know how to make the film and who to aim it at. This gives the person a little bit of knowledge of what the company is but they can also further their knowledge by researching this partnership by themselves.

Then after the introduction, it explains in paragraphs what the purpose of the film is going  to be so that you know what their intending to do with this film and who their target audience or what target audience they want you to aim the film at. This is good to have in a brief as it will give you the purpose of the whole thing and what your aim is going to be within the film, whether its to attract new people or to promote a product or organization.

After the purpose of the film is explained, the brief then goes and explains what their budget for this film is going to be so that you have a clear understanding of what their willing to give you to make the film. Then straight below the budget, it talks about the timescale and how much time you'll have to make this, this can be negotiated if you believe that the deadline for this film will be far to fast and would need to change it.

After the budget and timescale it goes to tell you how to apply and what to include when submitting your film and whether any references from other places are needed. Then at the very bottom it give you their email and their address so that you can contact them if you have any problems or want to negotiate the brief.
